Well if you've been following the comments section, you already know why we think what we think right now. But for those new to the party, here's the rundown.
Snow will arrive tomorrow between 6 and 10 AM. Most of our models indicate it will start after 9 or 10 AM, but because so often the precip shield moves in faster than we think, I've hedged back a couple hours. Either way, the morning commute should not be bad. Snow will be steady through the afternoon. Conditions may not be terrible for the evening commute, but they won't be ideal. Then, there will be a solid period of heavy snow occurring between 5 PM and Midnight. This is when we may really get into the "fun." There may be a lull between 11 PM and sunrise, with just some flurries. But then snow should pick back up again on Wednesday. Areas north and west of Rome may not see this lull and that's why snow amounts are higher there. Areas south and east of about Bridgewater may not see much resurgance in the snow on Wednesday, so amounts step down there.
Additionally, there may be some rain drops mixed in south of Route 20. This is another reason why amounts are forecasted to be lower there.
Here is the official updated forecast.
Where can this go wrong?
First: The dry slot (lull) could be stronger than anticipated. That is definitely a possibility. In that instance, the back end snows would set up further north and west than expected, keeping us cloudy, but dry for most of tomorrow night and Wednesday morning. So then just about everybody would get hosed by that. I am concerned that the models may be very much overdoing precipitation south of Rt 20, which is why I kept that area at 3-6" for now.
Second: Surface temperatures get too warm. If this were to happen, rain would be the big player...and snow would mix in at times, but you'd essentially be cancelling it out. I'm not too concerned with this, but it plays in the back of my mind. The good news at least is that sleet and freezing rain are not a big concern with this storm.
Lastly: Surface temperatures get too warm. Why again? Well this could also have a factor in how much snow actually accumulates. Ratios could be more like 8:1 and we'd still get snow, but maybe more like 4-8" rather than 6-10".
Every storm this year has really underachieved. We rarely have had an instance where we could say a storm outdid itself. Could this be the one? This storm is a different breed than the others we've seen this winter, so it's possible. But for now, I like what we have out there...we'll examine the 00Z data and radar and make a judgement call for 11.
In the meantime, I'll be here for questions, but I am also laying the foundation for a Mar-Apr-May outlook. So I may not get back to you right away.

I looked at those experimental graphical maps on the binghamton NWS and they are show our area Herkimer west getting hit very hard with snow. 5.2 tommorow, 5.3 tuesday night, and 4.5 wenesday in Utica. Not sure if they are relable but they did accuratly point out the lack of snow the last couple of storms. It shows Syracuse getting about 17 inches of snow the next two days.

Mike,
Sounds good to me.....the experimental maps have been doing a pretty decent job this year.....lets hope this is a overachiver... everyone needs to remember ..... this is CNY and it is still winter ANYTHING can happen!!
I am also thinking that with the amount of lift that there will around that LES will be a potential source even if wind direction is not great.... sometimes in this type of scenario even with wind direction not being perfect .....there tends to be good geographic lift.... we shall see

00Z NAM has not trended significantly, but it is a smidge colder (850 mb 0 line is in northern Susquehanna County, PA, as opposed to right on the border as it was at 12Z at hour 24), and judging by the temp drop tonight, I think we may be sealing the fate of rain in the southern areas. That said, the best dynamics for heavy snow remain north and west of Utica. So based on this, I see little need to change what we have out there now.

matt, check out the paralell NAM, it looks even better for snow, and i think id put more baggage in the paralell NAM, as i have been reading around different places, that the NAM has performed very poorly this winter. with that said i think both the NAM, and even the paralell NAM leav too much of a surface low reflection near BGM, i think it all trasfers to the coast. however this is just my opinion at this point. all we can do now is wait and see. i think however if the GFS comes in colder NWS BGM may put all NY counties under a warning, except maybe delaware and sullivan(as they may get into that warm pocket still)

One thing is for certain. We may get absolutely walloped late tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. We could be talking about significant snow in the six hours from 4 PM to 10 PM. Anything beyond that point would be bonus snow (and be a steady light snow). But I think a significant amount of our storm occurs in that 6 hour period. The evening commute does not look pretty.

mike m ( binghamton):
you beat me to it matt lol. just taking a look at the paralell NAM, and it is once again latching onto good backside deformation zone snowfall. on the order of 4-10 inches(4pm to 4am) across central ny, with the general rule being the higher end of that spectrum the further NE you head(ilion, stratford, dogleville, old forge and up toward the central and eastern dacks, and toward vt and nh)

Posted February 25th at 9:30 PM
-
Matt Lanza:
Mike: As good as the parallel NAM might look, it's still an experimental model and I'm not about to put much stock into it yet. This basically sums up the storm....
- Light snow at the onset (late morning through early afternoon)
- Heavy snow for approximately six hours between 4 and 10 PM
- Steady light snow/flurries from 10 PM onward into Wednesday all day....slow accumulation.
- Lake enhancement on Wednesday west of Utica which would increase snow totals there.
I do not see much reason to go greater than 6-10" for most of CNY, save the North Country, which will have better dynamics initially with the wrap around tomorrow overnight, which should give you guys an edge. That said, I'm going to make a change and go to 5-10", but get rid of the 3-6" range. Keep in mind, just because I'm going from 6-10 to 5-10 doesn't mean I think the Mohawk Valley is going to see less...it's just because I'm concerned someone down in Oneonta or southern Chenango County will only get 5" because of mixing or less precip than the models are showing.

dont want to take up too much room on here, but if you take a look at bgms forecast discussion, this is basically what they are saying...this applies mainly to southern areas,....they said they like how the 00z NAM has trended toward a colder solution, and it would give NY counties mostly all snow, with a period of heavy snow during the afternoon, followed by a dry slot, then more wrap around snow tues night and weds, they also said they are going to let the next shift deal with possibly upgrading adv to warnings, after they see all 00z guidance.... so much for not taking too much room, srry.

Matt Lanza:
Mike: Certainly possible, but the difference between 15" and 18 or 20" isn't all that much. And since that's out of our viewing area mostly, I didn't feel obliged to overthink it. The main reason I'm highlighting the 15+ near the Lake is to show that Lake Ontario may play a role at some point. I'm not as concerned about this as I was earlier, but felt I should keep it.

Well at least the models have been pretty consistent unlike the past 3 months worth of storms where they flip flopped right at this point in time. I think it is game time! I haven't seen much about wind with this storm, but "others" are saying it is going to get quite windy (20-30mph). Anybody have any input on wind potential with the storm winding up along the coast? Could we be dealing with blowing and drifting snow?
Posted February 25th at 11:01 PM
-
Matt Lanza:
Michael: It will get brisk tomorrow night and on Wednesday. Blowing and drifting shouldn't be a major issue through tomorrow evening, because the snow should be rather wet in consistency. But on Wednesday, as colder air blows in and light snow continues, we'll see blowing/drifting become an issue.

After looking at the NAM on e-wall,this storm is very impressive.
Although QPF might be high,it certainly brings the deformation zone through the metro area.Snowfall rates in the zone would reach 1-3" per hour at times.Especially over the higher terrain.Too bad temps weren't a little colder, but at that rate it doesn't really matter. It's going to be a wild 36 hours. Here is my total snowfall guess for the storm."GAB Rome-12.5"Posted February 26th at 12:26 AM
-
mike m ( binghamton):
Rob,it certainly will get wild. when it is precipitating hard(10am-4pm) i think temps will have a hard time rising. perhaps something like 32.5 right in the valley, with anyone over 800 feet below freezing, and anyone over 1500 feet around 30 or below. between 4-8 pm i think we see precip lighten up a bit, and this may be when temps "surge" to around 34-35 in the valley and close to freezing in the higher elvations. then after 8pm its all down hill with more snow developing.

Have to vent about some people freaking out over this storm, it has nothing to do with anyone on this board just some people in general...I dont know why some people get so worked up over snow totals. We live in NY. 5-10 inches of snow in a 24 hour period is nothing to go all crazy about. After the huge storms we have had in the past(christmas day storm, valentines day storm etc.) 5-10 to me is more of a norm rather than an exception. Is it a nussiance, yes. But we have dealt with this stuff all our lives. Its not like these snow totals are un-typical for our area. If this storm was producing many feet of snow then ok I could see why some people would be concerned but this storm, in my opinion is just plain "average" for us.

I don't think its average when its the biggest of the year. I agree with the whole storms of the past thing, but the ones that you mention are more like 1 in 50 year storms, not every year storms.Update from down here. Just over an inch and the snow intensity and snowflake size has increased.

As of 11 AM only 1.3" has fallen here. Right now it is only very light snow, Visibility >5miles. Looks like the heavy snow is falling south of Utica, because I just heard alot of schools down that way are closing early. I thought the heaviest snow was suppose to fall north of the Mohawk Valley, not south of it.

I agree w/Vicki...this is CNY...and hey guys it's still winter...so what's the big deal...it's not like we have never had snow like this before...as for letting schools out early...they all knew this was coming...so why didn't they just take a snow day...so what if they have to use some of their Spring Vacation..better to be safe than sorry...hence less confusion for parents too...this way they don't have to scramble to find someone to be home for the kids or take off from work early, just cause Superintendent's make stupid decisions!! Not everyone can just leave work to get home for the kids...sorry just had to vent....

So far at least, everything is working to plan. Lighter snows were supposed to dominate through midday. After 1-2 PM we should notice an uptick in snow. Radar returns in Central PA lifting northeast are impressive, so I still think conditions will deteriorate later this afternoon.
As it stands now, as long as roads are treated and periodically plowed, they're in tip top shape...by far the best I've noticed this winter. Thruway travel is fine. But some roads untreated and on hilltops will be slick.Posted February 26th at 12:02 PM

matt, what do you think about surface temps, according to my thermometer we are at 32 degrees here. will they holr, rise, or fall?

Mike: They'll hold and possibly rise a little bit I would think. I'd be concerned about a possible mix with rain down there, but up this way, we should be just cold enough, even if we get above 32.

Just an update from the county they have put out an announcement that the Emergency Management office is requesting no unnecessary travel this afternoon and evening. I do think you will see a travel advisory for us shortly. Close to 3 inches now.

Matt Lanza:
Jeff: Quick and dirty mesoanalysis shows the best pressure falls right now over S PA...generally as expected. Not idea for us, so no influx of cold air anytime soon. But given that you've seen 1-3" down there, that's fine and pretty much according to plan. We'll continue watching.

I have to travel to SUNY Morrisville from Utica late this afternoon (leaving around 4pm). I teach a night class that meets from 5:30-8:30pm. I usually take Route 49 to Route 26 to Route 20. I then drive 60 miles home to the Holland Patent area. I noticed that a few schools right by SUNY Morrisville are letting out early...this concerns me that it might be a rough commute both ways for both me and my students. I have already cancelled class once due to weather, so any thoughts/recommendations on whether I should cancel this evening?? Thanks to anyone who can give me an idea as to how it looks down that way.

Bill and I just stuck a snow board outside finally to get more accurate readings. We're at 3.0" here on the hill as well and snowing heavily with rather large flakes at the moment. Our 5-10" should have no trouble being met. The only question now becomes, can we outdo ourselves? Jeff: You are in for waves of this. So stay tuned. Storm is behaving almost exactly as we figured, maybe an hour or two faster. Jim, I will keep you updated. State DOT just came through, but roads are still and will remain snow covered and hazardous throughout the night. The thing with 3p.m. is you are going to have alot of traffic on the roads with school getting out, so this just makes it more difficult for plows to keep up. Heavy snow looks to continue for several more hours as well, as radar shows lots of precip to the south heading this way. As I write this road conditions are continuing to deteriorate.

Mike I think that its a pocket. If you take a look at the State College Radar there is precip West of there that is filling in the back side of that dry spot. The precip in that area is also starting to take a south to north trajectory.

Re: the salt shortage by "roady"......
I can assure everyone reading this that NYSDOT is not going to run out of salt tonight (or tomorrow) regardless of the temperature.
Actually, if the temp drops low enough (not going to happen tonight) the salt becomes ineffective, generally becomes less effective under 10-15 degrees.
Re: the 2 providers of salt, probably due to the fact that one company wins the low bid, one for treated salt, one for untreated. I know of one DOT "barn" for sure that isn't fighting anyone for salt.
I'm sure "roady" has some knowledge on the topic, but, just wanted to adress the 'alarmist' tone, nobody needs to "beware" if the temp drops.I will agree with roady, we in general, have become addicted to salt, using way too much.

Traffic is moving along about 35 mph, with the occasional idiot doing 55. There were 2 cars off the road heading west on 49 and traffic was backed up. The exit ramps off of 49 look pretty bad. Unbelievable, DOT can't keep up with 5" of snow, what do they have trucks for? Saw trucks stuck on Rt. 12 northbound, right after I saw at least 7 trucks going south near burrstone rd. Last 5 were scraping bare pavement. Why can't some of them come plow north on 12? Bare pavement to unpassable within about 3 miles, ridiculous. Pat,
Interestly enough, with the storm tracking to the south, there really wont be a classic 'coastal explosion'. Had that storm tracked farther north like it looked like it would based on the weekend data, it might have been a different story. The bottom line though is that the southern track is ideal for snow in Central New York. As the center of the storm passes east over the next few hours, the heavy snow will be taken with it. So look for the heavy snow to lighten up this evening.

Matt(Marcy):
just under 8 inches today not a heavy wet snow but just heavy and wet enough to be a little packy, haha just looked at the radar and it looks likes there is a lull in the heavy stuff but no real defined dry slot except for that spot over Pittsburgh so i expect the snow to continue and if not get heavier as this storm intensifies and moves over the greater N.Y.C. area and eventually moves off the coast and the snow"shield" moves slowly north and west

still about 3.5 inches here, the snow keeps comacting. it all depends on where the deformation zone really sets up tonight, is it really gonna be up by buffalo and rochester and across the north country, or will it be in the more usual, spot, smack dab over cny with the finger lakes and lake ontario getting in on the action toward morning as winds go NW. right now i dont know the answer to this, but based on radar data and the fact that the storm is tracking near NYC, id vote for moderate to perhaps heavy at times snow either lasting, or redevloping tonight for most of cny.

Matt Lanza:
Tim: Our feeling during this event was that the best dynamics tonight were going to be north and west of Utica. We figured Utica south would get the majority of their snow from this initial blast, but that steadier snow would linger longer up north, allowing for more total snow up that way in the end. We still have time. I don't know if you'll hit 10-15", but you will see more snow tonight, thus the higher forecasted amounts tonight up there too.

Is there still a concern about the dry slot around the Utica area tonight? It seems like we are always prone to it. I'm starting to wonder if our geogrpahy has anything to do with it. I'm just hoping we don't get gained over by the dry slot. Getting gained over is the worst.

Off-topic: But a very interested compilation of global temperatures over the last year has been released. Click here to view it. But it appears that there is some solid agreement in a substantial cooling of planetary temperatures has occurred in the last year. I always question the validity of sources like this, but the temperature data does not lie, and the gentleman who runs this blog appears to be impartial to either side of the climate change debate. Just some food for thought.

Over the next few hours we will transition into a much different style event. Rather than constant heavy snow, it will come in waves. Periods of flurries and periods of white out conditions. At times the snow may stop completely. Other times it may be impossible to do anything. So a lot of variability...this will send some snow totals up and the uniform 5-9" we have now will expand a bit.

9.0" inches of snow as of 7:30p.m. Secondary streets and roads are very tough to travel to say the least. Main roads are snow covered as well, but still remain travelable. Light snow continues to fall here and will likely continue to add to snow totals.

Extremely heavy snow is about to move into southern Oneida County and southern Herkimer County. White-out conditions are possible with this band of snow.
Mike: Not really. That should stick around out there. In fact, you can see the deformation zone beginnings now. If you draw a line from Ottawa-Rochester-Pittsburgh, you can see the axis of snow that should be the focal point tonight...mostly north and west of our area. This may slide east a bit and at times may impact us, but as expected, this is where the best situation will be for continued moderate snow tonight. The back edge of the actual storm's snow is about to push through BGM and Elmira. Things will settle down considerably once that passes, and phase three of the storm begins.Posted February 26th at 7:36 PM

Matt Lanza:
Mike: As for Friday...it will be a snow event, but it will be brief (late afternoon-overnight), with scattered snow showers/LES spray on Saturday. Looking like a 1-3/2-4 type of event this far out. Of course, that could change. Next week is a very volatile pattern. We're still in transition from the mild/wacky stuff of the last couple months into more of a cool pattern. Monday looks like a warm day, potentially very warm with highs of at least 40, possibly well into the 40s. Then a cold front sets up (looks like a wicked severe wx outbreak down south). Low pressure cuts off in the upper atmosphere and all bets are off. I have 0 confidence right now in the Tues-beyond timeframe...rain, snow or both are likely at some point. Looks very interesting this far out.

8" so far here in the Pharsalia Highlands ;-)
Snow has started to dry out some at this point.
But down in the valley it was very packy and great snow to plow as you didn't have to chase it. But on the flip side it's real slippery.Posted February 26th at 8:29 PM
-
Matt Lanza:
Roady makes a good point. Both the snow is slippery and with temperatures falling from > 32 degrees to below 32 tonight, watch out for black ice to develop later. Untreated/poorly treated roads are going to be tough tomorrow morning. Temperatures are only going to gradually drop back, so it's not going to be a flash freeze, but as the night goes on, driving will remain hazardous.

Here in Mohawk it has been snowing very hard for the past 30 minutes or so. It had slowed down for a while, but it seems to be picking up again. The radar right now looks like we are about to head out of this though. Do you think it might be about the end of it for us here?
Posted February 26th at 8:49 PM
-
Matt Lanza:
Might be interesting to see where the "pivot point" sets up here. Right now, the back edge of the storm precip has pushed through Sherburne, Richfield Springs and is approaching Little Falls. But it looks like snow wants to hang on from about Herkimer north and west right now. So this may set up a situation where someone in Little Falls is dry, Herkimer has flurries and Utica has steady light to moderate snow. So in Mohawk, I would say for the most part yes...although you may be in and out of light snow/flurries for awhile.

Matt(Marcy):
not quite Annie i see the snow ending for you around 9:30-9:45 tonight and then you have to deal with the back end coming between 4-6am tomorrow morning and if it even gets heavy for just 4 hours before most people come out it could be a very slippery commute to work

Ryan: Not more than expected. But again, this event isn't over. It's just light snow that'll add up with time. That's the bottom line. At times (like now) it will be moderate to heavy. Up to 8.3" here in Deerfield.

light snow, Temp here in Oneonta is 32 degrees, pressure is 971/28.67, humidity is 83%. Matt, do you have any idea what time the snow is going to pick up in intensity again in Oneonta
Posted February 26th at 9:19 PM
-
Matt Lanza:
Randy: Looks like it might be awhile. To be 100% honest with you, you may not see any significant pick up in intensity aside from flurries. The backside of this storm looks weak right now. Heavy snow has just lifted north of South Utica....and continues to march northward. Snow on the backside to the north and west is extremely weak for the most part. There are pockets of heavier snow, but they are very isolated.

matt, cny seems to be a very good place for snow development..when the conditions are right. remember back in december we had a somewhat similar storm, and as it went by moderate to heavy snow developed over all of cny, and i beleive it dropped 3-6 inches in most areas, it was aided by upslope and the finger lakes; could we possibly see something like this toward morning?
Posted February 26th at 9:34 PM
-
Matt Lanza:
Mike: Judging from the model forecasted precip output and what's occurring on radar, I am doubtful. Pockets of moderate snow embedded in an otherwise light snow. This won't be like December.

Posted February 26th at 9:41 PM

mike m ( binghamton):
its gonna take until we get the wind to go NW before snow will redevelop, once the wind goes nw, i believe it will be like a light swicth, with light snow developing rapidly, and as matt said there could be pockets of moderate snow(esp downwind of finger lakes, and up toward mohawk valley). this should happen around 1am.

Cindy (Ilion):
It is snowing pretty good here right now and I;m hoping we can keep atleast some snow coming overnight. I guess I will wait and see. The roads are not good, not even the state roads here in town. They are still snow covered and under most circumstances with a storm like this the state roads are close to bare. Not sure why???
Posted February 26th at 9:43 PM

Matt Lanza:
We'll see Mike...current indications are nothing to get excited over. In general, that was the plan anyway....steady light snow tonight and tomorrow, accumulating slowly. We're not going to miraculously get 6" out of this. But slowly but surely, it'll add up a few inches. Up north is where I am most disappointed, as things are not all panning out. I'll likely be tweaking amounts down up there for 11.

Mike: Probably. I would go lower, but when you're dealing with that little snow on top of what's fallen, over a 10-12 hour period, it's a moot point. I will just sweep the entire viewing area with a 2-5"...eliminating the 4-8" up north.

We hit this one in the largest part of the viewing area. Unfortunately, we along with others, definitely tanked in the Old Forge/northern Oneida/northern Herkimer areas. I did see a 9.5" in West Leyden, which is close to verifying and that location will exceed 10" when it's done...but it's not widespread enough to call it a success up there. Oh well. mike m ( binghamton):
snow just starting to redevelop now back across finger lakes. the one thing we have going for snow over cny, is ample moisture. earlier we had dense fog down here, indicating a saturated atmosphere. therefore if we can even get a little bit of lift in the atmosphere(which that upper level trough/deformation zone will do overnight)i think we can see widespread light snow break out in ernest of cny. i think we will see some steady light snow break out over the next 1-2 hrs, esp sw of utica for now, but it should get to utica between 1-3 am.
Posted February 26th at 11:57 PM

Michael- (Dolgeville):
9.0" inches of snow here as of Midnight. Light snow continues to fall with a temperature of 30.9 degrees. Trees and power lines are heavilly covered with snow, but everything looks so pretty out. We have between 1'-2' feet of snow currently on the ground here. Snowbanks resemble those of the Valentines Day storm. Also, great job WKTV weather team. Your snowfall forecast was perfect for us! decent snowband now developing over central pa, i think this will traslate north into cny over the next 1-2hrs. i think the atmosphere is just prime for snow to develop...not overly heavy snow but the kind of snow they were seeing in pittsburgh early, moderate in nature...but it should last alot longer around here...

Rob(whitesboro):
Something is trying to develop Mike. It's never over till it's over.Radar estimates clearly show that Utica and it's suburbs took the brunt of the storm. That's probably the last time I'll be saying that for awhile.Still some flurries falling here.
Posted February 27th at 12:22 AM

Matt Lanza:
Matt: I honestly don't know. If road crews are out and about and busy, they'll be ok. But, they do have temperatures aiming to fall below freezing, so that may hamper things a bit. Basically, give yourself plenty of extra time in the AM to get wherever.

Flurries have added an additional quarter inch here in Deerfield, putting us at 10.1" now. What did fall was almost like water. Some melting is occurring out there now, but I suspect that will stop, as the temperature has fallen to 30 here on Smith Hill.

Of note: We're now at 76.8" for the season. Only 11.9" of that has come courtesy of Lake Ontario! 84.5% of our snow this year has come from synoptic scale storms (widespread storms). On 15.5% has come due to Lake Ontario. Impressive stats.

Mike M: Haven't we received enough snow???

Matt= Cold Brook:
Ok now, enough is enough.I personally have been satisfied with this winter.Temps above normal saved on fuel bill and we here have had snow on the ground since just after Thanksgiving. Now I am up at 5 am on my day of to snow blow the driveway again.
I beleive that we have recieved at least 10 inches from this storm.I will take pics and try to send them in.Right noe it is 23 with a slight wind out of the west and about 4 more inches since 7:30 pm last night.Today is 11 hrs of daylight and 22 days till spring.Posted February 27th at 5:02 AM

Matt Lanza:
Matt: I am with you there. I am pleased....this is a nice event and I'd like to go out on top! But it never works that way. 11.1" now here in Deerfield on Smith Hill. 1.3" since 11 PM.

Denys (East Winfield):
5:00am - 24 degrees, light snow, a little windy with small gusts. We got 2 inches of snow overnight. That brings my total to 9 inches.

Dana - NH:
Finally a actual snow storm, without rain or a mix... though in places out toward Albany and beyond that. Couldn't ask for nothing different I actually am enjoying it! but still folks drive safe.

Dana - NH:
Matt - The set up of the LES, is it going to stay out toward Syracuse, but shift up to the north of them or is it going to reach to New Hartford - Utica area? or have a chance to?
Posted February 27th at 5:18 AM
-
Matt Lanza:
Dana: It'll be a close call. I think it has a chance to, but if I lived west of Utica, I'd feel better about it.
Posted February 27th at 5:32 AM
-
Matt Lanza:
We only need 0.2" today in Utica for us to go above normal for the year in snowfall!

Dana - NH:
Matt - Thank you, that's what I thought!
This is out of our area, but I thought to through this out there, Lake Michigan produced good lake snow late last night 6 - 10" expected out of that band in Indiana.Posted February 27th at 5:37 AM
-
Matt Lanza:
Dana: I saw that lake band last night...talk about impressive...a north-south band over Lake Michigan is almost what you would see with an east-west band across Lake Ontario. Impressive stuff...and it moved way inland.

Dana - NH:
The one out in South Bend/Michigan City, Indiana looks like it's dissipating... well off of the radars I'm looking at. It's impressive though north - south band, usually I use of seeing west - east bands, like you said Matt. That's why I mentioned it.

Additional 2.5" overnight, 10.5" total storm
Posted February 27th at 6:17 AM

Dana - NH:
This storm looks like it has a rotation, up in Quebec,Canada and in extreme northern Maine. Looks like the rain/mix that was in Massachusetts is up in New Brunswick and parts of Nova Scotia.

Sarah:
Snowing lightly here in N. Utica. Although I have not taken an "exact" measurement, I would guess between 10-11". With the snow stuck to everything, it is really beautiful out!

Jeff (Southern hills):
Good morning blog! Well we have gotten another 2 inches from last night putting storm total at 8 inches. School was closed which makes sense considering all the plows went home at 6-7pm. I had almost 4 inches of snow on my road last night, good thing we didnt need any emergency eq because it was nothing but following the tire ruts. (Dont take that wrong, my crew is great normally, but they dropped the ball last night). Hard to believe that now we warm up.....

mike m ( binghamton):

MG(Point Rock):
In N. Central Oneida Co., I measured a total of 8.0 inches as of 7:30 this morning. 28.5 inches on the ground. Total for the season is 153.0, which is very close to average for this date up here (I've been measuring here since 1985).
