Rainfall Recap

Posted August 23rd, 2010 by Jill Reale. 14 comments

Rain is beginning to taper off across much of Central NY, with some light rain across Madison and Chenango Counties. The actually low pressure system that brought the steady and heavy rain is now off the Long Island Sound. An upper level low has replaced the low pressure system across Upstate NY. The deep upper low will begin to sink to the south this afternoon, taking the rain along with it. Clouds will be stubborn across the area for today, tonight and into Tuesday. While the rain is diminishing, there is still a Flood Warning in effect until Tuesday Night for Oneida County, primarily for the Mohawk River at Delta Lake. There is also a Flood Advisory in effect until Monday Night for Southwestern Fulton and Southeastern Herkimer County.

The image I posted is from our in house radar computer. This is Rainvision or the rainfall accumulation over the last 24 hours. It seems that northwestern Oneida and Eastern Herkimer/Western Fulton & Montgomery Counties were the bullseye for the heaviest rain.  Yesterday, we officially broke the daily rainfall record for Aug 22. The old record was 1.79" back in 1966. We accumulated 3.04" on Sunday. If it was winter, we would probably use a 10:1 for snowfall, so we could have easily seen 30"+ of snow! No thank you :) Here is a list of rainfall amounts across the area:

Hartwick 4.8"
Point Rock 4.78"
Richfield Springs 4.6"
Verona Beach 4.12"
Ilion 3.76"
Delta Lake 3.7"
Dolgeville 3.67"
Rome 3.19"
Westmo 3.10"
Whitesboro 2.85"
West Exeter 2.64"
Salisbury 2.63"
Fairfield 2.56"
